OUTDOOR LEARNING GROUPS
WEDNESDAY MORNINGS
Join The Home Ed Hub Swanage for our brand-new Outdoor Learning Group, set in the stunning surroundings of Blue Pool Nature Reserve, Wareham.
These group sessions are designed to bring children together for practical learning, creative exploration, and nature inspired fun. Each session blends Science, Art, and Geography, encouraging children to explore, question, and create while learning from the world around them.
Children will spend time discovering the outdoors, take part in linked creative or scientific activities, and enjoy relaxed social time with others in a friendly, supportive setting. The sessions also provide valuable opportunities for social connection, helping home educated children build friendships, teamwork skills, and confidence as they learn alongside their peers.

Example Session: Into the Woods
Here’s what a typical Outdoor Learning Group session looks like, so you know exactly what to expect:
We’ll all meet at the main entrance to Blue Pool, where children are signed in and introduced to the group. Parents are welcome to stay and join in, relax in the tea rooms, or head off and come back for collection at the end of the session - whatever suits you best.
Once everyone has arrived, the children are split into two small groups, each led by a designated teacher. We’ll begin with a short safety briefing, chatting about how to stay close to their adult leader, look after nature, and move safely through the reserve.
We’ll then head out on our pre-planned trail route, which links directly to that week’s theme. For example, if our theme is Into the Woods, we might explore how to identify trees by their leaves and bark, collect natural materials, and take part in a fun, themed challenge along the way.
After our outdoor exploration, we’ll make our way to our designated covered craft area, complete with a log fire to keep us warm. Here, the children can settle down for a free-flowing creative activity inspired by what we discovered on the trail, such as leaf printing, bark rubbings, or creating woodland creatures from natural materials. Each session includes a take home craft or science project, so children can proudly share what they’ve made and continue their learning at home.
Children can also enjoy their snack time during this part of the session, while chatting and winding down together.
At the end of the activity, parents return to the craft area for collection ready to hear all about the morning’s adventures!

Chloe
Founder & Lead Educator
Hello, I’m Chloe, the founder of The Home Ed Hub Swanage and the lead teacher for our Outdoor Learning sessions.
I’m a qualified teacher with over a decade of experience in both classroom and alternative education settings. Before founding The Home Ed Hub, I was Head of Junior Maths and later went on to gain my Master’s in Education. Over time, I realised my passion lay in helping children learn in a more creative, individualised way. Where curiosity, imagination, and nature all have a place alongside core learning.
Now based in Swanage, my approach combines solid learning foundations with practical, nature based experiences, giving children the chance to develop confidence and curiosity in an inspiring environment.
I lead our Art & Nature Sessions in Nature Reserves around the Swanage and Wareham areas, designing lessons that connect Science, Art, and Outdoor exploration. Whether we’re exploring local habitats, creating with natural materials, or discovering the science behind the natural world, my goal is always to nurture curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
